Boosted by a generous extension of illuminations to January 2022, the Blackpool ‘Lightpool Festival’ is returning bigger and bolder than ever. Visitors eager to experience a variety of visual artworks and performances are invited to visit the seaside town between October 15 and 30 for sixteen upcoming exhibits and presentations.
A contemporary light and fire festival began in 2016 to celebrate Blackpool’s illuminations, inspired by the town’s relationship with lighting. In 2017, the festival won the Large Tourism Event award for its six-mile display of traditional displays. Ensure you don’t miss this spectacular event, and with that said, here’s a pick of the bunch;
House of Cards
The ‘House of Cards’ a great piece of light fixture that gives a welcoming atmosphere in the daytime and encompasses you in magical light ambiance in the evening. The purpose of a House of Cards is not to collapse, it is to create a sense of motivation in every child: to strive, to be motivated, to continue on to aim for the stars and achieve great things.
Tram Parade
In honour of Blackpool’s tramway legacy, this parade showcases our Illuminated Trams, which are a distinguishing hallmark of our resort. At around 5:15pm, the trams will depart from within Blackpool Pleasure Beach and, at Central Pier, the parade will be joined by the rest of the participants for an Illuminations experience that will be hard to forget. Slowing to a crawl as it approaches The Blackpool Tower, this impressive show offers spectators the opportunity to take breathtaking photos and videos.
Carnival Magic
During this gala, an electrifying static showcase of music, puppetry, and dance will dazzle audiences as an illuminated collection of Carnival characters struts into the Tower Ballroom. A diverse melting pot of Carnival magic will be brought together by international Carnival performers for a 30-minute showstopper.
Aqualux
Aqualux is a luminaire system made of 48 empty water containers, able to hold 1,000 litres of water each, very compact and environmentally conscious, and intended solely to illuminate this unusual, aquatic environment. Lightpool Festival will bring its artwork out into the street so that the public and attendees can admire it up closely.
Symphony Of Light
Using an array of acoustics, projections, and captivating illumination techniques, Symphony of Light offers audiences an extraordinary theatrical experience. The artists and engineers who developed this performance have let their imaginations run wild, and the result is a magical collision of noise and visuals that is stimulating and uplifting. The audio and light patterns rotate every half an hour, allowing you to experience multiple genres of music.
The Nixies of Oakpool
Perfect for families and couples, the Illuminations come to life, as told through animation, puppetry, light, and music. In an ancient oak woodland in which Nixies resided, mankind decimated a mysterious habitat many centuries prior. Although we try to bring them back every year, there is nothing quite like a forest lit up by Nixie lights. An accompanying mask-making workshop will be conducted before the family-friendly performance to invite children (and adults) to participate in the storytelling.
